Gym buddies

Sebastian has decided to join me at the gym this year and seems to be enjoying it. He’s mastered bosu squats (better than me) and has even done sets of 20kg bench press.

I was very excited to finally deadlift 100kg…the best thing about lifting the heavies is how easily quantifiable your progress actually is.

I did manage to injure my back, but tried not to let it completely break my gym habits. One of the bonuses of having a gym buddy is that on the mornings when you don’t feel like it, you have a reason to get going, and then you still feel better at the end.

Back is much better now, and we are back to usual – and having mornings where sometimes we just feel trashed. But we do love #gymlife.

A year in the life 2016 #346: lift the heavy things

82.2kg for 5 sets of 5. I was pretty impressed with myself.

A year in the life 2016 #293: cricket duties and the gym

Up on a Saturday morning to watch Sebastian play cricket. And wander off to the gym when I discovered they weren’t batting.

At the gym I deadlifted 80kg for the first time! Managed to do it 21 times as well, so was pretty pleased with myself.

A year in the life 2016 #251: weights

It is super convenient having a gym in the building. While I can’t do a full range of lifting there, there is more than enough to do a good session, and when I am time-poor or transport deprived I can still lift some heavy things.

A year in the life 2016 #185: thanks Gisselle!

Most of my PT sessions at the gym were with Gisselle. She made me work hard but was super lovely and supportive (everyone at my gym Xpress Personal Training was fabulous) and I am definitely going to miss her sessions.

A year in the life 2016 #178: 30

This is my reaction when my trainer tells me I’ll be doing a similar program to usual but sets of 30 reps rather than 15.

And below is how I look after the hour plus it took me to get through that.
