A year in the life 2016 #153: a tale of two birthday parties

Sebastian chose a paintball party for his birthday with a bunch of his friends from school. Much sweaty, shooting fun was had.

We then got to Emilie’s birthday party in time for the cake. Turning half Sebastian’s age at 7!

Two part birthday

2016-04-03 18.42.02For Jude’s birthday he decided this year that he wanted Korean food. So we went to nearby Korean BBQ while Jackie was still in town.

Lots of deliciousness, lots of fun. Jude particularly liked the cook-it-yourself aspect of the evening.

2016-04-07 19.20.36Pretty much since we have moved into the city, Jude has been desperate to get nitrogen icecream. His actual birthday proved to be the special occasion which warranted it, after we had been to hockey training.

The preparation process is quite impressive, with nitrogen gassing off everywhere.

Everyone was happy with the results – especially the birthday boy!

A year in the life 2016 #90: belated birthday lunch

Lovely to spend hours out to lunch with the best friend enjoying a belated birthday celebration. Hard to think of a better way to spend an afternoon.

2015 weeks! #14: April is the cruelest month (not really)

2015-04-13 11.37.33Shiny shoes and stripey socks to start the week.

2015-04-13 12.55.09Also lunch out with one of my former EAs. They may leave me, but they still like hanging with me.

2015-04-13 18.12.49I was very excited that finally my Blood Moon Tonic had arrived, so more gin and tonic experimentation.

2015-04-13 22.48.08George has taken to sitting, pretty much on my chest, whenever I am on the couch. We’ve been getting up close and personal.

2015-04-15 21.27.52Bit of Wednesday night adventuring.

2015-04-16 10.47.14Getting me through the day.

2015-04-16 10.50.29One of my lovely staff brought me lovely Greek biscuits to try. Never say no to that!

2015-04-16 22.36.07Fabulous bed socks arrived from Lucy – Big Bird to hang out with my Cookie Monster pj pants.

2015-04-17 12.51.04I had Friday off and it was Rachel’s birthday so the boys and I went and took her out to lunch which was very pleasant all round.

2015-04-17 16.41.17It was school holidays so Sebastian was back in the kitchen where he does enjoy a bit of activity.

Saturday was a road trip to Sydney for the Dishonour Rollers’ first 5×5 engagement. It was great to be back doing line ups for them, and even better because we played well and took out the game firmly. Such fun. Such a great team.

2015-04-18 20.09.03Enjoyed the poetry of the Sutton Forest McDonalds on the way home and left wondering, what is “improbable beautiful”?

2015-04-19 15.19.17 HDR-1Autumn had firmly taken hold in our back yard.

2015-04-19 17.25.07Post game DHR Sunday training – because we are not ones to rest on our laurels.

2015 weeks #13: birthdays, derby, Melbourne and more!

2015-04-06 14.48.04

A quiet Easter Monday + board games with friends and family…2015-04-06 18.39.49-1…a delicious dinner of ribs…

2015-04-06 19.38.25…and hanging out with George.

2015-04-07 06.56.47The latest addition to my range of fitness activities has been resistance interval training at F45. I really enjoy it (except when there is push ups) and it does make me work super hard. Generally I try and go once a week – I have been avoiding the cardio sessions since I bunged my back skipping and sadly there is only resistance training on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I have to find time to fit it in around the rest of life. But I have taken some of it home to do with the small boys in the comfort of our lounge.

2015-04-07 14.49.14 HDRBack at work and continuing to benefit from the whole new interest in beading. This is a creation that Jude whipped up while staying with Jackie on the weekend.

2015-04-07 08.43.32And here is the happy birthday boy!

2015-04-07 19.42.43

To celebrate the auspiciousness of Jude’s birthday, it was dinner at the regular favourite – the Elk & Pea. The boys couldn’t go past the donuts for dessert.

2015-04-08 08.20.36Jude’s new knitted cap from Rachel was a major success (just don’t try to tell the boys it is a viking helmet because they will expend a lot of emphatic energy explaining that in reality vikings didn’t have horns on their helmets and that is all a myth).

2015-04-08 22.07.00-1Managed to get some D&D in. Someone tried to burn us all in a inn.

2015-04-09 10.06.17 HDR-1Off to Melbourne. Here is me looking disgruntled about having to ride in a maxi-taxi. I hate those things (though obviously very important for accessibility – why do I always get them in line. This was the second time for the week).

Disgruntlement didn’t last long as, in between meetings, I got to catch up with Victoria and then I was staying at one of my favourite Melbourne hotels, the Crown Metropole. The 27th floor pool is spectacular as the sun starts to dip.

I was attending the Transport and Logistics Skills Council annual awards dinner. As I have mentioned before, I really do enjoy seeing the outstanding work some training providers and employers do in the training space, and hearing the wonderful stories of many of the people who have gained training and the impact on their lives – it does make it all feel real and worthwhile. I also learnt that while trains are easy to drive, there is an enormous amount of skill in getting them to stop!

2015-04-10 20.22.20Friday included attending Nick’s Dad’s funeral, and then going out for drinks with Nick and family to appropriately say goodbye. I was ready for two drinks at that stage.

2015-04-08 09.08.18 HDR-1

Autumn has been looking its usual beautiful self in Canberra this year.

Saturday was bout day and with Capital Carnage playing the Dishonour Rollers I was left with very mixed loyalties. This time though, the boys won out and I ended up benching my first game for Carnage. Lots of fun and the boys won, though the Dishonour Rollers certainly made them work for it.

2015-04-12 15.09.31Sunday was Jude’s birthday party – George and I were hiding in the kitchen from all the noise of an afternoon D$D campaign conducted by a horde of small boys under James’ supervision.

2015-04-12 14.36.16-1The adventure called for fighting a dragon-turtle. Rachel delivered a fabulous chocolate version for the boys to slay.

And a happy birthday was enjoyed by all adventurers.

The Labours of Zac-ules!

2014-07-05 10.33.00Zac was adamant that he wanted a “12 tasks of Hercules” themed party this year. Never ones to turn down a challenge, we went for it and devised our own 12 challenges.

There was fighting a lion (well, tiger)…

Cleaning some stables (well, moving some small rocks from on spot to another)

We also had to pin the net on the boar.

2014-08-11 19.30.26 And there were a number of chasing, fighting, throwing, following and stealing games to make up the rest of the labours.

2014-07-05 11.25.20

Except for the slaying of the hydra. That was up to Zac-ules alone (although his brave companions helped with the eating)

The week that was…week 28: winter happenings

2013-07-02 22.13.10Fog has been a frequent visitor this winter – here is a night time foggy shot on our street.

2013-07-02 14.01.22In wintery sights, from our offices you can catch a glimpse of the ice skating rink in Civic. Many are the times I would like to be out there skating rather than inside working!

2013-07-03 14.40.13My new glasses arrived this week.

As did my winter supplies of new stockings – and the less wintry hot pants.

2013-07-03 22.38.52Had the dilemma this week of deciding which book to read next again.

2013-07-04 08.34.57 2013-07-04 08.35.16Zac and I walked to school together again early so he could get to choir. He has on his special Norwegian hat to keep his head warm and even went so far as to wear long trousers.

2013-07-04 14.26.03 2013-07-04 16.19.33My directors and I went to the new Questacon Technology Centre at Deakin to use one of their meeting rooms to do pre Planning Day planning. Afternoon tea cupcake treats.

Jude played at half time at the GWS game at Manuka. It was so cold though that we left before the game was over.

2013-07-06 16.08.05Winter washing.

2013-07-06 19.39.31-1Saturday was Zac’s birthday – Mum and Dad arrived for a visit and it was off out to dinner to celebrate. Rachel’s many pictures of cute animals and funny cats keep the boys very entertained.

2013-07-07 09.52.57For Zac’s party on Sunday, Zac decorated the party bags while Sebastian made the cake! Sometimes it is good to be redundant.
