A year in the life 2016 #191: going home

Day 2 of the road trip home went well. More Mr Floppy Legs adventures, more Pokémon hunting and a lot of driving.

We were amazed by how green it was along the way. And, in places, wet.

We got back to Canberra eventually where it was lovely to see Sean and Helen and, most especially, George.

A year in the life 2016 #190: the adventures of Mr Floppy Legs – behind the Scenes

It was time for us to drive home after a morning of car tetris trying to pack in as much as we could. James and I had decided to stay overnight in Mildura and eat at Stefanos. So we set off.

Before we left, we had discovered that Sebastian had left Mr Floppy Legs, his much beloved teddy, behind. So James had taken some wistful pIhotos of Floppy and posted them on Facebook. His plan, as it developed, was to take some photos en route. We struck gold early when we spotted this strange collection of stuffed toys attached to a fence.

James took advantage of our various stops for further Mr Floppy Legs photo opportunities. We weren’t in a huge hurry so we also did some Pokémon hunting and gym fighting en route.

James also didn’t hesitate to ask for assistance in the Floppy storyline – truck drivers were quite helpful.

It was an entertaining way to spend a drive – finished with a lovely dinner in Mildura. The longest part of the drive was still ahead of us.

A year in the life 2016 #189: last night in Adelaide

James and my last night living in Adelaide. Monday had been spent packing and then Tuesday we turned our Adelaide home over to the cleaners.

Mum and Dad arrived home Monday afternoon so tonight was a chance to go out, eat some fabulous food at the Oriental House and say goodbye.

We also took the chance to teach Scarlett and Emilie more about Pokémon Go. Here is Emilie looking sad because there were no more Pokémon to be found.

A year in the life 2016 #188: boys on a plane

Up a stupid o’clock to put the boys on a plane to Canberra where they were being picked up to be whisked off for five days in Merimbula with Jackie and John.

Being up early wasn’t a terrible idea for James and me (as much as it wasn’t pleasant) as we had a whole day of packing the house up and moving out.

A year in the life 2016 #187: final family dinner

Our last Sunday night dinner while living in Adelaide. As Mum and Dad (and Sam) were still overseas, dinner was at Lucy and Rowan’s. They found a bottle of Black Shiraz to crack open to celebrate or commiserate, depending on how you wanted to see it.

Lovely food, doing the quiz, having some laughs – the Sunday night usual.

And then the boys had to say goodbye.

A year in the life 2016 #186 (b): last big night out in Adelaide

The boys were flying home to Canberra for a few days in Merimbula on Monday and so this was our last chance for a big night out in Adelaide together.

We started with cocktails or mocktails at Thrift Shop. Yum.

We then had an absolutely fabulous dinner at the Mexican Society of Chinatown. Completely delicious.

And to end the evening, icecreams from 42 Flavours.

A wonderful night together.

A year in the life 2016 #186: party party

Here is some laser tag action at Zacky’s birthday party. The adults couldn’t resist and got in on the action in the second round – nothing like shooting up ten year olds.

There was also party food and presents and friends…and, of course, birthday cake.
