A year in the life 2016 #82: footy memories

Went to the first game of the SANFL footy season and it was the traditional Norwood v Port rival grudge match. It was fun to go, but so replete with memories – from attending my first game at Norwood Oval with a copy of What Katie Did which I read throughout the game through to my year of committed football attendance in yr 12 when every Saturday afternoon during the season was spent at the footy and many Saturday nights at the football club. I was slightly horrified to learn that the Norwood Football Club building had actually gone – all that remains of many formative experiences including major crushes and post-school dance parties are the memories.

This is the first time I had been to a Norwood game with the small boys – they have been with thwir grandparents, but this was the first time we had been together.

When I left Adelaide I pretty much left footy behind – part of a different time and a different life. So odd to be back in the deep heart of that past.

Of course, when I used to regularly go to the footy, we never got to kick the ball on the field at half time!
