A year in the life 2016 #59: natsukashii

I only had a very small amount of free time in Tokyo, but I had to get on the subway to Shinjuku. At first I forgot how large Shinjuku station was and waljed out an unfamiliar exit. This part was different and clearly there were lots of new buildings since I lived there nearly 24 years ago. But then I found the tunnel under the train tracks I knew and when I came out it could well have been all that time ago.

So I visited Studio Alta where we all met on so many nights out in Tokyo.

The things that haven’t changed at all were the best. There was Samrat, our regular Indian, still there. Kinokuniya with its English language section at the top. And Shakey’s Pizza, though now incongrously next to a Tiffany’s.

It reminded me how much I loved Tokyo and now I am keener than ever to return.
