A year in the life 2016 #35: #letthemstay

It is depressing and distressing to think we live in a society where a lot of people think it is acceptable to send children into an abusive situation no matter what the justification. We know from medical professionals who have worked in Nauru that children suffer there both physically and psychologically, that they engage in self harm or descend into depressed helplessness. As people of good conscience we must not allow that to happen without making our voices heard.  Personally i think we should stop all offshore processing – it is an obscene waste of public money and it treats desperate people as sub human. What does that say about us as a society? We are so desperate to hang onto our material posessions and suburban homes we would rather torture people than risk sharing? I want to live in a compassionate society and i want to ensure my children grow up to be compassionate people.

The boys made their own sign. They understand that the children that could be returned to Nauru are just like them. Children.
