A day in the life 2016 #30: South Parklands

image

We wandered over to the South Parklands. While the boys bowled and batted in the nets, I went for
a walk. With bush spaces in between the organised sports areas, it really is a lovely spot.

2015 weeks! #49: graduation, pre Christmas and other stuff

Jude was pretty happy in his brand new sneakers walking to school Monday morning. This was our last Monday ever walking together to Turner.

2015-12-14 19.46.36Gratuitous George shot. At this point we were still trying to work out what we were going to do with George during our whole Adelaide-house-being-knocked-down adventure. Fortunately, by the end of the week Helen and Sean had agreed to take him, and he has been living a life of luxury there and even met a new kitten friend.

Tuesday we had dinner with Nick and the boys at their house. Lovely to catch up with everyone.

Wednesday was Jude’s graduation from Turner Primary. Big day – he got his certificate and we ate cake and I can’t believe another one of my children is going to high school (although not yet, because in Adelaide year 7 is still primary school, so he has another semester of primary before he starts at Campbell High in July.)

It was also an occasion for a rare whole family photo.

James and I had breakfast together at a.baker Thursday morning.

2015-12-17 09.07.43The big Saturday highlight was a pre Christmas get together at Steve and Shell’s – presents, food, drinks and good company.

Sunday we caught up with Helen, Sean and Alice and a visiting Viv. Ice creams for everyone!

A day in the life 2016 #29: bounce

image

A rainy day in Adelaide so we took the opportunity to go and try trampolines at Bounce Inc. The verdict: lots of fun.

A day in the life 2016 #28: opal

image

Today we caught the tram downtown and wandered to the SA Museum to see the exhibition on opals and opal mining. I learned some new things about how opals are formed and the boys were fascinated by life in Coober Pedy (did you know the name is a reinterpretation of local indigenous words meaning “white man in a hole”).

James and I had been discussing the idea of heading to Coober Pedy for a look while we are in Adelaide, so it might be a good introduction!

A year in the life 2016 #27: beach day

image

We took ourselves out of Adelaide and headed south for a day at the beach. Port Elliot ended up being our destination. The boys were initially a bit disappointed that there was much surf about the place so boogie boarding opportunities were limited, but we then introduced them to the joys of the pontoon. We all swam out to it and there was much diving off and catching balls and generally have a good time in water much deeper than that the  oys would usually swim in. A lovely day in the sun.

A year in the life 2016 #26: fireworks

image

One of the advantages of living in the city is that you can see the fireworks from your rooftop. We have a rooftop balcony we haven’t used much yet, but it was a good location to catch the Australia Day fireworks.

A year in the life 2016 #25: banh mi

image

After taking Jude and Zac to their new primary school for an interview with their new principal  (the boys were excited because the risk appetite of the school in the playground seems much higher than Turner) we checked out the cool little Vietnamese Laundry nearby.

image

I have noticed there seems to be a lot of Vietnamese on offer in Adelaide for lunches especially of the banh mi and noodle bowl variety. Vietnamese Laundry offers an excellent example of the type. The pork banh mi was outstanding. We’ll be back.
