The week that was….week 23: a busy busy week

2013-06-03 15.23.22 I had to leave for work before Sebastian got up on his birthday, and because I had Estimates and then dinner at the Sri Lankan High Commission, I was afraid I wasn’t going to get to see him. So managed to squeeze in afternoon tea at LSR with all the boys before running off to Parliament House. Happy 11th Seb!

2013-06-03 15.41.39There is something of a desolate beauty to the car park on the top of the Canberra Centre which I haven’t really caputred here. I almost never drive to work, so it strikes me more – looking out over Mt Ainslie with big blue skies all around. Also the thing you can’t capture in a photograph is the weird way faint music is piped through speakers.  Actually, that makes it more like the scene of a David Lynch film or something.

2013-06-03 20.45.01At the beginning of a fortnight of Sri Lankan activities – I had spent most of the day talking to a high level delegation from Sri Lanka about how we do vocational education and training in Australia. After an uneventful Estimates, it was off to the Sri Lankan High Commission for Sri Lankan food. Loved the cashew nut curry.

2013-06-05 08.58.21There has been a lot of fog in the last few weeks. Here are the Ainslie shops at nearly 9am one morning.

2013-06-05 19.57.22 2013-06-05 20.01.37The week before the Skate-turion tournament here in Canberra, it was Dishonour Roller training and the excitement of getting new uniforms.

2013-06-06 08.15.44Zac is still enthusiastically attending his choir practice, so he and I walked to school together early on Thursday to make sure he was there in time. He keeps stealing my beanies though – but note the shorts.

2013-06-06 19.15.51With life ultra busy, one has to fit in work when one can. Before D&D here.

2013-06-06 21.58.25But we still made time for adventures!

2013-06-06 23.04.31I love how Jude’s legs poke out from underneath his blankets at night. One of my night time duties – making sure they get covered before I go to sleep too.

2013-06-07 08.31.21Sebastian has had this hat since he was quite small. I will have to do a side by side comparison at some point.

2013-06-07 19.19.34Sebastian and me selfie out at dinner on Friday night.

2013-06-08 12.26.17Saturday was all Skate-turion, but I will post about that separately.Suffice to say, lots of derby, lots of fun.

2013-06-09 12.02.45And I ended the week on planes – off to Sri Lanka for a return visit.

The week that was…week 22: birthdays and simple pleasures

2013-05-27 12.27.21It is lovely to have a week with enough quiet time to catch up for lunch with James. Soup!

2013-05-28 22.21.02Another full moon week. And being the last week of autumn, it was also good to admire the final leaves.

2013-05-30 09.45.102013-05-31 15.25.14For James’ birthday we out for a lovely family dinner at the Elk & Pea. Zachary was particularly pleased about the unique dessert he was given when the things he wanted had run out.

Because life and work has been so completely relentless recently, I had Friday off to do very little. It did mean James and I got to pick the boys up together and walk them home.

2013-05-31 15.07.272013-05-31 15.09.37Jude is currently obsessed with Minecraft (again). Playing Minecraft, constructing maps, watching YouTube videos about Minecraft. We still have the no-Minecraft-talk-at-the-dinner-table rule.

2013-06-01 11.46.24Sebastian’s obsessions are sport (particularly hockey) and cooking. Here he is soaking after his footy game, and baking up some cakes to take out with us.

2013-06-01 12.30.34 2013-06-01 17.04.09We had a movie night at Dave and Caroline’s – after watching Babette’s Feast and eating nearly as much food, we dramatically switched moods to Monty Python and the Holy Grail for the second act. The boys were not excommunicated because they found their first viewing very funny. On my 53rd(ish) I still found it hilarious.

2013-06-01 20.29.24 2013-06-01 21.03.54Jude broke a bow this week…

2013-06-02 21.27.07…and Zachary lost a tooth.

2013-06-02 22.37.14The week ended with a second birthday celebration – dinner for Sebastian’s birthday at Biciletta for mains and then home for caramel pudding.

2013-06-01 13.45.05Despite the increasingly heavy rain today we headed off for Jude’s footy match. It was cold. It was wet. Half the kids and possibly entire teams did not show. But Jude’s team played. Mostly Jude froze and I got sodden, but that is what Saturday football is about. At least they still had the sausage sizzle going.

2013-06-01 14.18.07

The week that was…week 21: more of the same, but this time with flowers.

2013-05-20 07.03.10Another week begins with a plane flight. In fact it was brisbane on Monday and Sydney on Wednesday.  I have rather come to accept planes as a natural part of life by now.

2013-05-20 18.46.08Came home on Monday to some lovely flowers from Natasha for some help I’d given her on something. She’s the only person who cna be relied on to send me flowers these days! Yay for best friends.

2013-05-23 12.07.06 2013-05-23 12.15.50A visit to the hairdresser to see my hair get redder. As usual it was a chance to catch up on work.

2013-05-23 17.22.49Here’s a lovely sunset viewed from the back of a taxi coming over Commonwealth Ave Bridge. Had been up at Parliament House appearing before a Senate inquiry into 457 visas. Fortunately I didn’t get asked too many questions.

2013-05-23 19.46.03 2013-05-23 20.35.51Sebastian continued in his souffle cooking ways. Chocolate ones this time which were delicious, even if they needed slightly longer in the oven (I blame the stoopid oven).

2013-05-23 21.01.39Zac has been working hard on a story about the owl I brought back from Indonesia to go with the earlier drawing. This is one of three pages.

2013-05-24 08.47.50Here is George in one of his favourite sports – surveying the world outside.

2013-05-25 11.20.41Another week, another set of sports. Sebastian at the football.

2013-05-25 17.02.32At the Ainslie shops there is a great new mural brightening up the otherwise ugly car park area at the back.

2013-05-25 17.23.07And here is Sebastian, walking home from the shops in the near dark.
